asa softball pitching

once the pitcher receives the ball from the catcher how much time can they take to pitch. and what is the penalty for not staying within the time frame.

RKBUmp Mon Jun 01, 2009 11:51am

The pitcher has 20 seconds from receiving the ball or the umpire indicating play ball to deliver the pitch. The penalty for not pitching in that time frame is a ball on the batter.

Uh, no. The pitcher has 10 seconds to release the next pitch after receiving the ball, or after the umpire indicates "play ball." That's ASA 6-3-J. The penalty is that a ball is declared on the batter.

I think you're reading the FP section. :)

Ok, is the original post asking about slow pitch or fast pitch, it doesnt say. I assumed fast pitch.

If its fast pitch, it is 20 seconds, if slow pitch then yes, 10 seconds. And in the slow pitch section it does not list a penalty for exceeding the time limit, although I would assume it is consistent with the penalty in fast pitch.

Oops... That's TOTALLY my mistake. I should've read the post more carefully.

RKBUmp is correct. Sorry for any confusion!
