I believe a foul fly that is misplayed can still be ruled an error for the purposes of determining ERA.

I don't know how many times I have heard the pitching circle referred to as "the mound" in these SR's, by the talking heads and coaches being interviewed.

No, it can't be unless you're thinking slow-pitch. ;)

Yes, an error can be charged on a foul ball and should be if a misplay prolongs the at-bat. No, this doesn't concern the umpires. It can effect the pitcher's ERA.

Is anyone aware of a dropped foul ball ever being scored as an error even though it is permissible according to the rules to do so?

I love it when the guy commentator on ESPN kept try to get the lady (pitcher) commentator to admit that they go after batters when they crowd the plate. She kept saying, "no we don't do that", and he kept trying to get her to admit that's what they do. He has no business as a fastpitch commentator.

Under the OBR the play described in the OP could be scored as an error. It would depend on the scorer's judgment. This happens frequently in professional baseball.

Funny you should ask. I was up in Seattle watching the Mariners, and the Giants F2 was charged with one on a ball that clearly should have been caught. Even if the official scorer was not going to do it I was going to mark it down on my own scorecard.

It's somewhere in OBR 10 (the rule umpires besides me don't care about ;)).

No wild storms in Seattle over the weekend, just an offense that Mariner fans find, um, prettty offensive. :p

Another one of those cases where someone needed to just tell this guy to "Shut the **** up!" He was annoying as hell! Where is John Kruk?

I heard they wanted to get Kruk, but he got surprised and put his hands to his head and they got stuck - so he couldn't answer the call.:D

If ESPN ever gets back to showing those major slow-pitch games like they did a few years ago, I certainly hope this guy isn't a commentator for it. I'd like to hear him ask someone the same question in slow-pitch. :rolleyes:
