Just noticed that the NFHS web site has published rule differences between ASA and FED rules.

It is eerily similar to Steve's Document.......

I had not seen anyone mention this before and thought that it might be a new addition to the site.

I am just now really understanding the DP/DEFO thing. I believe they erred in their explanation. They said the DP is "terminated only when the DEFO moves to bat for the DP." My ASA book says the role of the DP/DEFO is never terminated. Which is correct? Isn't it that if the DP comes in to play defense for the DEFO, this reduces the number of players from 10 to 9 and the same if the DEFO bats for the DP, but in either case they can reenter and go back to 10 players? The explanation on Fed's site is wrong - at least not as clear as it should be. You are correct when you say that the ROLE of both the DP and DEFO is never terminated.

The ASA DP/DEFO is identical to the NCAA's version. The NCAA book has a table in it showing a lot of what may & may not be done with the DP & DEFO. I got permission from the NCAA last year to copy & use their table in explaining the rule. If anyone wants a copy - I think several of the regulars already have it - drop me an email & I'll send it. Joel, do you think this would be a good addition to your site's comments on it?
