Good point, Mike. Buzz words and catch phrases such as those drive me nuts. "Fourth Dimension" is especially curious since I believe time already had that one claimed...

Unfortunately, it's not limited to officiating. The business world is horrible for buzz words and catch phrases:

"Synergy"

"Metrics"

"Proactivity"

I'd keep going but I'm getting nauseous.

OK, but at the end of the day, what terminology are we to use going forward? :p

Hey I'm not offering solutions here, I'm just complaining like a good American...

Thank you

Well, maybe because we, as humans, have a capacity for language, and labels help to distinguish between concepts a lot better than points and grunts. :D

Having a hard time staying awake in those loooong business meetings?

Try this - bull$hit bingo you might have to adjust the url a bit since the site wants to edit it!

That bingo is when you want to "Chillax".

Don't know where 'slice' came from. It was the 'V', then they added the 'wedge' for the counter rotated responsibility, but I have no recollection of any slices on the softball field. Now, on the golf course, far too many slices in my game.

Ahem, from a well respected softball clinician, taken from a previous version of the college manual.

Cactus Umpires: High School Umpire Stuff

(see page 2)

I really don't care. Hate the term. It infers moving in the wrong or opposite direction.

The term was first introduced to my vocabulary when it was used as a description of what the umpires did once a runner reached 2B. PU covered the plate, BU3 covered 3B and BU1 had 2B & 1B. IOW, there was no rotation at all.

Somewhere along the way, the term went from "counter-rotation" to a "counter-rotated position". Just part of my opposition to the sheeple and their buzz words. :D
