Hi,

This should be an easy question for you experts out there. This is specifically in regards to ASA Slowpitch. If a team starts with 11 players (they are using an EP), and if someone gets hurt and they don't have a legal substitute, can they drop to 10 players? I have read the rule a million and one times, and the part that is confusing me is, in the EP section is says that if you start with 11 you must end with 11, and then in the shorthanded section it says you can finish with one player less than the required number. Now, I would easily interpret that to mean that if you start with 11 you must finish with 11, but at the same time if you start with 10 or 9 you can drop one and don't have the required number.

Thanks for you help.

Basically what the rule means is that if you use an EP, giving you 11 batters, and then must drop to ten, this is ok, but you will be charged with an automatic out every time the missing player is due to bat, even if it is the last out of the inning or the game.

A team cannot continue to play with less than the number of players in the starting line-up when starting 10 or more players.

If a team starts with 9 (slowpitch) or 8 (fastpitch), they cannot drop below those numbers as they are already playing under the shorthanded rule. The missing player is still assessed an out every time that slot in the order is due to bat.

Anytime a team is shorthanded and a player arrives at the field, that player MUST fill the vacated spot or lose their eligibility for the remainder of that game.

Sorry I no have rule book in my hand now

In slow pitch, you can use EP just start game and can remove EP after that

you cannot start less than 9 players (SP) if game less than 9 players it's will be forfit game.

if play with 9 players, every turn of 10th batter it's will be add 1 out for that attbat

if you have opposit way in thinking will be told me pls.

Thanks for the replies, I found the answer finally in the POE's, and the answer is yes you can drop by one player in the case of an injury or disqualification. I knew that was the case, but just couldn't find it in writing. I had to show several people, because of course no one believed me :O) Take a look at the EP rule in the POE's and then under the shorthanded rule in the POE's it spells it out nicely for us, too bad it didn't in the rules.

Dong,
What rules' body are you speaking about? A team may play shorthanded in ASA fast pitch - must bat at least 8 when they go shorthanded. ASA has a POE on the shorthanded rule & situation.

In ASA, a FP team may go to 8 players via the shorthanded rule.
