Chat

Is anyone interested in an on-line chat?

ASA/NYSSOBLUE Thu Jan 08, 2009 03:44pm

sure - when and where

MNBlue Thu Jan 08, 2009 04:03pm

What is the topic and isn't that what this is?

Steve M Thu Jan 08, 2009 04:15pm

Sure.
I've got some adult beverages on the porch - so they're nice & cold.

Stu Clary Thu Jan 08, 2009 04:18pm

If regular chats were scheduled I'd be likely to participate.

C'mon, Mark, it's not like you are out in the wilderness. You live right alongside a city that used to have a team in the playoffs. :D

I'm referring to a real time chat where we discuss whatever comes to mind.

If enough interest, I'll see about setting something up on our local web site.

True, but they shouldn't have been! :( However, with a real QB, they could be much better.

Count me in.

NCASAUmp Thu Jan 08, 2009 08:24pm

If this comes to fruition, let me know the specifics.

whiskers_ump Thu Jan 08, 2009 11:22pm

Might as well join this one, OU/FLA game is boring. I like scoring and this one should
have had lots of it.

IRISHMAFIA Fri Jan 09, 2009 12:20am

I'm working on something. Just did not want to waste my time. Once I get to a comfortable point, we can schedule an evening, and even pick a topic, if y'all like.

I'll let everyone know when I get set.

Nevermind. It is a normal think you see in chat sites, meaning age, sex, location. (One person asks this of another.) I see it all the time at this one site where I go to play Texas Hold Em. Bugs the heck out of me.

Live chat sounds like a good idea. IRISH, would you be setting it up on this site, or another site?

NCASAUmp Fri Jan 09, 2009 12:18pm

And would it be text-based, or voice chat (like a conference call)?

OK, now I know you. I thought I recognized you, but now for sure.

Youre that dude in the back of the room that doesnt stop asking those "questions", with a confused look on his face, not quite knowing what to write in his note book as the answer...

Yep, you called it.

Actually, it's more like I'm the guy in the back of the room, checking his watch repeatedly, waiting for the damn clinic to get to something more interesting than "make sure your uniforms are clean, etc."

Test.

Want to make sure y'all can access this chat page.

Go to www.dasaumpires.com , near the bottom of menu, click on "Chat".

The page should come up as LeagueLineup Chat. If working, you should be able to right-click on the Guest Name assigned to you and be able to change it.

Let me know if any of you have any problems.

Okay, so maybe we should set a date and time?

Maybe make it a repeating time? First Sunday of every month? First and third Sundays? Once a week? I'm certainly open to suggestions...

As am I. Don't want overkill, so every few weeks would be fine unless someone wanted a get together for some reason. Would like to start off the first one discussing the ASA test which is available to all on-line. Of course, that doesn't mean that can be the only subject, just something on which to focus.

Joel,
Right click on your guest userid, change name is one of the options.

I have so many plugins and stuff with my firefox one must be getting in the way. No biggie... I just open in IE tab and it works fine in firefox using IE :)

IRISHMAFIA Mon Jan 19, 2009 08:16pm

I know there may be issues with AOL, also. As already discovered, going in directly through IE is the easiest way to go.

To change the name, right-click on the name. If it comes up "menuname" or "menuname2", you may not be able to change your name.

I saw you were on last night, but couldn't get there by the time you signed off.

Any problems? Noticed neither of you changed the "guest" name. Was that because you couldn't or just didn't bother?

Thanks

shipwreck Tue Jan 20, 2009 06:16pm

I changed my name on chat, but when I came back later, it wasn't changed anymore. Do you have to change names every time if you don't want the generic name? Dave

So, if anyone wants to set up a chat during the day CAT (central african time) let me know. :-)

It's been two years since I last posted, just to update. Still alive, still in the DR Congo, still teaching, not a softball in sight, would love a new rule book, it online anywhere? Just for nostalgia's sake, since I'm still the entire American community in town I don't see me officiating any games soon.

What? You can't organize a local league there just to keep you in umpiring shape???

If he does, he'll have the easiest time umpiring games, because none of the coaches will know the rules.

If only that argument also worked here...

Somehow, I have the feeling, that even over there, they believe the hands are part of the bat!

ChampaignBlue Mon Feb 02, 2009 08:31am

Oh come on, when did not knowing the rules ever stop a coach from expressing his opinion? They're not called AA for nothing.

Why am I here? To get a good tan? Who knows, ex Peace Corps volunteer who got a bee in his bonnet to go back. Of course 20 years as an ASA ump might have driven me to it as well. Maybe I just wanted to get as far away from "c'mon blue" as I could and believe me, I'm very far from there. If you want to see some photos go to kasaioccidental.com. I'll be adding some from a road trip soon.
