2009 ASA Biennial UIC Clinic

Amateur Softball Association of America (ASA)

For the ASA umpires interested. I know at least a few of us will be in attendance and we will get together at some point to share the beverage of your choice.

If you have never been, you will enjoy this. You may also want to check to see if your local UIC will accept this for any required clinics you are required to attend at home.

You must register with the hotel and clinic separately. If you act now, you can get the offered rate at the hotel's web site Oklahoma City Hotels ? Pet Friendly Hotels in Oklahoma City ? Biltmore Hotel OKC assuming they do not block out a certain number of rooms at some point. The room rate is the same for two as it is for three, so a room mate can defer some of your costs.

Your ASA commissioner must endorse your application, so you cannot register directly with the ASA office.

Hope to see quite a few of you out there!

AtlUmpSteve Wed Dec 17, 2008 01:16am

As you well know, I will be there.

Just remember, Darrell. Anything to which you add fruit is not a beer.

Any bets on which region goes to bed first on Saturday and which one will be closing down the bar?

;)

It has everything to do with flight times on Sunday, not just the 3 hours internal clock advantage you hold. Regardless, I plan to be there for quite a while, as I have in the past.

All the more reason I booked my flight later in the day :D

Yeah, you get to go to bed early because we will finish all the beer.

Can't wait to see you do your leaping safe call on the dance floor at Chisolm's. Some of them thar cowboys might really be impressed with it :D

Ok, that made me spew my chicken soup on my keyboard! You give me a shot of tequila, and I'll do the flying safe call.

Unfortunately, I am flying stand-by; so it would behoove me to get to the airport fairly early (unless I know there is a flight with light booking). Overall should have minimal problem getting to Atlanta; just don't know when, for sure.

I know Darrell disputes my personal beer philosophy (quantity over quality), as I am perfect content with domestic light beer.

Trust me, I used to brew my own and I've toured so many breweries, it's beer. May not be your type or my type of beer, but it is still beer.

What isn't beer is an IPA. For those unfamiliar with the origins of IPA, it is what the British used to brew for their troops in India when it was part of the colonies. The recipe was developed so that the brewing process would incorporate the time it took to travel from England to India whether on a ship or the back of a horse, elephant or camel.

Using the same recipe for modern day brewing doesn't quite work the same. Then again, I've never been terribly fond of some of the English-brewed bitter ales, so my taste/opinion might be slightly slanted

azbigdawg Sat Dec 20, 2008 12:42pm

History lesson aside,,,,,

It aint real beer!

Just received info about this clinic. As of this past week, including staff and guests, there are 285 umpires registered for this clinic.

Damn, we are going to have a good time.

Will be well represented at the Clinic. Unfortunately, we have to return early Sunday for a Mechanics Clinic...that sucks.

What info did you get? I haven't seen anything...

IRISHMAFIA Tue Feb 03, 2009 08:20am

Roll call.

Who will be in OKC this weekend and when do you expect to arrive?

Come on, even you lurkers out there are invited. If you don't want to post, send me a PM just so we can see how many officiating.com folks will be in the house.

Once we get a grip on when most folks will be in town, we can set up some place to meet.

It is always nice to put a face with the name. This is a friendly, argument-free meet. Everyone is welcome, even you, Chuck :D

AtlUmpSteve Tue Feb 03, 2009 09:15am

I will be there; flying stand-by, so I have no idea when I will actually arrive. I will head to the Atlanta airport early, and take the first available seat.

Big Slick Tue Feb 03, 2009 10:33am

Mike, I'll be arriving on Thursday along with the "Brown Pineapple" from your neighboring state in Region 3. And if tradition holds, we will be together for the unofficial Region 3 steak dinner on Friday night.

SRW Tue Feb 03, 2009 12:05pm

I land at 4:45 pm assuming all goes well.

Angler Tue Feb 03, 2009 12:30pm

Plane lands at 3:11. Looking forward to my first clinic. Although I'm sharing a room with SRW....

Is he bringing his blue tele-tubby outfit?

DeRef Tue Feb 03, 2009 09:32pm

Just checked the weather, the high temperature is 65+ through out the clinic. :D

Yep...DBD here. See you tomorrow in OKC. The first Alaska Amber is on me (do they brew real beer in OKC?).

IRISHMAFIA Wed Feb 04, 2009 03:37pm

How about this:

For those who are in:

Thursday 8:30-9:30 Hospitality session - I'll try to secure a table close to the entrance to the bar (on your right as you walk into the pool area.

Friday 9:00 Chisolms

Any comments, suggestions?

I like that you planned a morning session at the bar. Will there be an afternoon and an evening session?

Well, I thought there was enough common sense among the members that it wasn't necessary to indicate AM or PM.

I forgot all about The Reg 15 Flying Safe Mechanics.

DeputyUICHousto Wed Feb 04, 2009 08:39pm

What did you bring me from you "honeymoon"?

IRISHMAFIA Fri Feb 06, 2009 07:46am

Well, Thursday night was a fiasco.

By the time I got to the hospitality area, it was packed.

So far, our big dawg from AZ is MIA, probably out looking for a good beer. atlumpsteve, big slick and myself have met up and engaged in some social activity.

Anyone else, Chisolms tonight around 9:00 or shortly after depending upon dinner arrangements.

Well, if I know the big dawg and two of the other area UICs with him, they probably started drinking at the airport (or on the plane) and just didn't get any farther....:D

Either that, or he is diligently researching the "retreating from home" scenario...

DeputyUICHousto Fri Feb 06, 2009 06:42pm

So far, so good. Great information.

I've been on pain medication and can't really party. Its too difficult for me to not party when I'm on meds. I still want to drink.

The clinic was great with a few minor exceptions. I thought the banquet was waaaay too long. Some of the breakouts were pretty remedial. And some of the "clinicians" were less than spectacular. And Julie Johnson was awesome!
