open Headcoach position Vienna/Austria

Dear Coach,

We are searching for a coach for our senior and junior womens fastpitch teams.

Our saison runs from may till the end of september. It would be good, if you would be available from the End of March (around easter holiday week) till the end of september.

We offer the flight from/to Vienna (are you currently living in the USA or in the netherlands?), a flat (shared we the coach of the baseball team, with a own room) near the field, public transportation in Vienna (tram, bus, underground) and a monthly payment which needs to be negotiated.

Our seniors team won the Austrian Championship 12 times and we play in the European Cup Pool A since 2000.
Last years we finished second in the league behind the Dornbirn Sharx.

Some background about the teams and the targets for the upcoming saison:

Seniors
---------
In the last years we always finished second in the league and we want the title back in vienna.
The main focus though is to improve the team in every aspect of the game with a special focus on hitting.
We have a good lefty pitcher, with great talent and excellent work ethics, she is tall and strong but her technique is only average, so there is lots of room for improvment.
We play in the European Cup A, which is the highest tournament level in Europe. Last year we finished 6th of 10 teams, the year before we finished 6th as well, the aim for this year is to play a good tournament and to finish in the top 5.

Juniors
-------
Since last year we have a second team with some U16 players and some players around 20 years old. We want to play friendly games and tournaments on our level. It is most important that the girls have fun get to love the game and play.
It is very important that every girl gets the chance to play in the first team, and because of that I want that two girls of the second team get a spot in most games of the first team with the exception of the European Cup and league games against the only two stronger teams in the Austrian Softball League.
It would also be part or the contract for you to be involved in the school program we plan for this season which aims to get more schools to the field and find new players for softball and baseball.

In general we are looking for a coach who can fill this position for an extended duration. Our baseball headcoach is in vienna since 2000 and we are very happy about this long term relationship. The directors board strategy is to find the right person to improve our softball program.
We stand behind our coaches and support them as good as possible.

The Club
--------
Our club has 130 members organized in 8 teams.
The youngest start with T-Ball followed by baseball teams in all age groups, womens fastpitch and our Wanderers Slowpitch league (more than
11 teams).
We are the biggest baseball and softball club in Austria and our ballpark is located in the biggest park in Vienna and is also the practice facility of all Austrian nationalteams.

Questions
---------
To get a better impression about you and your coaching philosophy would you please reply to the following questions:

What would your coaching strategy for the season be? (a concept; about 1 page size) Please explain how you would improve the teams batting skills. (in detail; what we doing against rise ball pitchers) How would your organize hitting practice to help the team to reach the next level?
How would you rate your pitching knowledge?

Would you please send me a softball resumé including experience and positions?

I hope you are still available and might consider the option to coach the Superfund Wanderers in Vienna.

I would like to thank you for your troubles and feel free to mail me with any questions,

Yours sincerly

Roland Hoermann
Vizepresident Superfund Wanderers

Some background....for the upcoming saison:

I hear you saying absolutely nothing about beer. You keep going on about teams and whatnot. Maybe you should come back in a few months when it is Marzen brewing season. ;)

At least they aren't asking for money, and they don't appear to be from Nigeria.

Rhoermann -
You are asking in the wrong area - this area is for umpires. For the most part, coaches & players do not take part here. I'd suggest a visit to the NFCA web site.

Guys - I'm assuming that he's ignorant with this request & post - and not the way we sometimes are. Europeans are playing some decent ball, not great ball, not competetive with top level teams here - but they are playing some decent ball. Their best teams will play evenly with good teams here.

No doubt Europe is doing very well as the sport continues to grow over there. I hope it continues to grow and think its very much in our interest for the sport to continue world wide growth.
I wish I was a coach and could head over to vienna for a 6 month coaching gig! That'd be pretty sweet.

But yes, Rhoerman, you are, alas, lost in the world wide internets. THis is an officiating forum. Only boring umpires here.

Wouldn't that be a hulluva kick?! I found out some years ago that I did not have the patience needed to coach.
