B-R turn at 1B

What are the keys that you look for on a B-R who runs through 1B, stops quickly and turns towards the ball, but does not appear to advance towards 2B? Or if you prefer, what constitutes the appearance of advancing towards 2B?

This is completely umpire's judgment, and I doubt you'll get a consistent answer. I look for one or more steps in the direction of 2B, with clear body language indicating that they are attempting to advance.

Quick "stutter-steps" do not, in my opinion, indicate that they are attempting to advance.

Agreed.

Also I am not quite sure what you mean in the OP by turning towards the ball?

Well, that would depend on where the ball is. If it isnt' in the pitcher's hands while in the circle, it is nothing.

Well, what if F3 has the ball after BR is safe? You would have "something"...

Yes. I would "have" to keep an eye out for a possible play.

I just let my instinct take over. If I would have reached out to tag them, they better get back to a base without being tagged.
