IFF help

I'm working solo on a SP game. One team is trying major shifts on almost every batter.
Nobody out, R1 and R2, F4 is playing 25 feet into the grass and I'm thinking...now what if I have a pop-up hit to him? Sure enough it happens. I called nothing and no one said a word probably because they don't know the language of the rule (reasonable effort). I'd like to know how you guys would have called this play. Had he of started on the infield and gone to the spot for the catch, I believe everyone would have called IFF but is he still considered an infielder if he starts way out there?

Yes, he is still an infielder and if he could have caught the ball with ordinary effort, it is an infield fly.

Let's see..

Beer league SP by yourself?

Call it and no one believes you. The name of the rule is.. infield fly after all. Every person on that field now officially believes you are yet another OOO idiot who doesnt know the rules, same as they've dealt with a billion times.

Leave it be and everyone is happy.... if you need a by the book excuse .. perhaps consider.. was is ordinary effort if they had to start 25 feet in the outfield?...

hmmmm....

up to you.

You told him the wording of the rule.. so that part is good to go. You're really good at those strict enforcement of rule wordings...

I didn't hit it to hard.. it was just another vantage point to consider....

Could he/did he make the out with reasonable effort?

So, wade, are you saying that if the infield is playing deep there is no such thing as an infield fly? http://static.mazdas247.com/smilies/poke.gif
