Cleaning equipment

Found this thread on the baseball site, and starting wondering if any of you have any special tips or techniques on cleaning your equipment.

Yeah... Don't get any soap in there when you're cleaning your...

Oh, SOFTBALL equipment?

Hmm... For my hats, I take a little nail scrubber and wash them in the sink. Helps to get the really dug-in dirt out of the band.

I've heard some guys like to use Windex or Febreze to brighten their shoes. I think it gives too much of a shine, though.

Periodically, I like to put some waterproofing stuff on my jackets to let the rain just slide off. Doesn't leave any spots. :)

Are baseball umpires that incapable of cleaning their stuff that they have to devote a thread to it? ;)

Well now there's one for softball umpires, too. ;)

Besides what's wrong with exchanging tips and tricks?

I farm it out. I'm taking bids now.

2 pairs of Plate Shoes
2 pairs of Base Shoes
16 Hats (ASA, NSA, PONY, USSSA, Plain) (Various conference baseball hats)
Leg Guards
2 Chest Protector's
1 HSM
2 Masks

With good references and the right bid, the task could be yours!:)

No, we just like to "discuss" everything (I do baseball, too).

Fun activity: Go over to the baseball board and ask, "One ball bag or two?" and see how many pages the thread ends up being. :D

Those are fun. So are the patent leather belt and shoe discussions on both forums.

Oh, yeah, go over there and tell them you believe the base umpire(s) should always carry an indicator. That will get them going.

Same thing with cleaning off bases/pitcher's plate.

Now, in accordance with the initial point of this thread...I took my chest protector with me into the shower today.

It took a while to get my chest clean, but...

If you aren't gonna clean your chest protector, plz at least Febreeze it. I can smellllllllllllllll it from here, and it ain't good.

I throw my hat and chest protector in the pool! Leave them for a few hours. Enough clorine to freshen them but not so much that the color fades. It works for me!

I wear them inside out and jump up and down in the water. Kind of like the agitator cycle!:p
