IFF question Runners on 1st and 2nd, 1 out. Batter pops up to the infield. Umpire calls IFF. Ball hits midway between home and third, then rolls foul untouched. Foul ball? Or play on? |

Foul ball. An Infield Fly, by definition, must be a fair batted ball. Once it becomes foul, the Infield Fly Rule is out the window. |

I've got a foul ball even if I called IFF. You have to have a fair batted ball to have an IFF by definition and once it's determined to be foul, no IFF. |

And that's why, if it's close, you call "Infield fly, if fair." |
