Suggested CP for a Young Lady Umpire
Hello all,
My 15 y/o daughter has decided to give back to LL in return for all that she has gotten from the program. She is working toward becoming a Junior Umpire in our local LL. I know that no CP fits everyone, but I am wondering which CP our lady umpires on the list have found to be best suited to their physique. Initially she will be working major & minor boys BB and girls SB so I doubt she will need a Wilson Gold but would a washboard or multi panel "soft" CP fit better than a hard shell? Thanks in advance for your advice David |
Most of the women I work with use a soft fit multi panel. like the diamond ix3. never saw any of them using a hard shell type.... must be a macho thing. ;)

them equipment checks?:D |
The female umpires I have worked with, observing their equipment inbetween games whiskers :D ....well now that I think about it I actually got "forced" to wear one of their CP's but that is LONG story....one that she will NEVER do again.
But back to the OP, I have seen The Ump, and Shutt Kool Vest's and one worn a Honigs K2, and a few I have seen wear basic catchers chest protectors. The Ump is the most popular of the female umpires I have seen. |
Sadly, though, the Ump products by BodyGuard Inc. are no longer being made, though ASA properties still shows some in stock. (For a whopping $99.00)

Shutt kool vest. I love mine.
Many of the other chest protectors I have seen make female umpires look like the Michelin man. The K2 doesn't cover what it needs to cover. The ump just doesn't look good either. I used that and I was constantly having to move it around between pitches. I have never seen a female umpire use a hard shell protector. |
Thanks to you all
