Report from the left coast

I know many of you didn't stay up until 3:45 a.m. on the other coast to see the US come back to annhilate Canada.

You missed the worst case of talking heads diarrhea in the world.

USA hitter -- I don't remember who, but it doesn't matter -- hits fly ball to right field. Canadian RF makes a helluva try. However it's clear that she;s trying to get a grip on the ball and her hands are flailing. If any of you have seen/heard Henry Pollard do his thing about an outfielder doin this and that with his arms, this is exactly what he is describing -- a no-catch. Umpire (Aussie) makes no call, and finally ball comes out clearly on the ground.

Talking heads, Joe and Michelle, go on for literally an hour about how horrible things are, surely she HELD THE BALL LONG ENOUGH for a catch. I am ready to throw a brick at the TV, think better of it, and just agonize as they go on and on and on, how it shouldn't have been an error but was clearly an out and yada yada yada.

BTW, USA scores four unearned to go up 4-1, then score another bunch by hitting the heck outta the ball.

No more IPs called by 3BU.

The two games were much better than watching the Chinese 12U gymnastic team fall to the mighty American pixies and getting to listen to a symphonic rendition of an old British drinking song.

Yo, fidiot! Haven't you been paying attention? :D Forget the TV, watch the feed on nbc.com. No announcers, no commercials, no anything, but the sounds of softball.

Didn't Simon and Garfunkel do a song about that? (If I could get my mind in the right frame -- which SRW will tell you ain't gonna happen -- I would write new lyrics for "The Sound of Softball." Who knows, maybe it will happen.)

I haven't been paying much attention to this thread, but I think I've got a catch. She caught it, hit the ground and slid a ways. Then, she reached into her glove with her free hand and it looked like she tried pulling the ball out of the glove and it slipped onto the field. That's what I saw on the replay, anyway.

Regular speed and from where the umpire was standing I say no catch. Slow it down, and looking from the front I say catch and drop on the exchange.

I have a hard time calling that an exchange. The free hand went into the glove and the ball came rolling out. I would say she did not have control of the ball in the glove in the first place.

Either that, or she did not have control of the ball long enough! ;)

I agree with Dakota, at normal speed looked like she did not have control of the ball. Looked like she was reaching in with bare hand to try to keep the ball in the glove. No catch IMO.
