Metal Cleats in NAFA
Got this from our regional NAFA UIC. Thought the wording of the 3rd Base Coach being ejected was kind of odd.
Effective Immediately for all NAFA Youth play including National Tournaments the following emergency ruling will be in effect regarding a player found wearing metal cleats which are illegal: "In the event that a player or players are found to be in violation of the "no metal cleat rule", the umpire shall eject "BOTH" the 3rd base coach and the player(s) found to be wearing the illegal metal cleats for the remainder of that game. Once the first pitch is thrown this penalty will become effective for each game." |

What did the poor third base coach do to deserve this kind of abuse. It is the head coach that should be ejected. I don't know anything about NAFA (North American Fastpitch Association??). MTD, Sr. |

To clarify, that ruling was from the NAFA office not something our UIC came up with. |
Does NAFA require a team to establish before the game who will be the only 3B coach? If the 3B coach is removed from the game, can another person take his/her place?
I agree with Mark... Sounds like someone has some issues with 3B coaches... |

Did an NAFA Sectional this weekend. We had no problems with metal cleats.
Teams were adviced prior to coming to the tournament that NAFA will not allow metal cleats. If found, change them, if nothing to change into, sit the bench. Most of us included in a pre-game, not a requirement, "Coaches are all your players properly and legally equipped IAW NAFA rules?" Jewerly issue in NAFA is same as NCAA, as long as the item is not deemed dangerous by the umpire[s], then play on. Dholloway1962, you doing the 18U Nats in Surphur, La.? |
