Injured or Ejected Player
What is the ruling for injured or ejected players in ASA/NSA?USSSA SP? Is the spot in the lineup an automatic out?
|
ASA - Rule 4, Section 1, D
Injured player = out Ejected = forfeit Unless, of course, a substitute is available. |
NSA 4-4-c
If an injury drops a team from 11 to 10, 10 to 9, 9 to 8, then yes the empty spot in the lineup is an automatic out. But with 2 outs you cannot walk intentionally or unintentionally to get to that out. Also you cannot have catcher's obstruction or a HBP to the previous batter. If those happen you waive the automatic out and move to the next person in the lineup. NSA 5-3-e-7 If an ejection drops a team from 9 to 8, then the game is forfeited. If you have a substitute then ignore the above. |
USSSA 5.2: Playing Short
To paraphrase, the team may continue play for any reason other than ejection. The absent spot in the lineup is an automatic out. A player who has left the game may not return later in the game unless she left the game under the "blood rule". |
