Florida - VaTech

Okay, let's start.

Anybody else think the shot the Gator's F5 snagged to throw out the runner was a foul ball?

And if I hear about the 45 degree angle of Tinscher's hips, I may go postal.

Like Mowatt last week, Tinscher was called illegal once early and not again even though there is an obvious step which, in spite of the coach's assertions, has not been corrected.

I understand that certain things are "let go" and I don't have a problem with that. However, if you are going to call an act by the pitcher illegal once, it should be called the entire game.

IOW, if it is going to be overlooked, by design or not, don't call it at all. I think it would be embarassing to the umpire crew to call it onced as if to show the public they are paying attention and then let it go the remainder of the game.

New guy to the forum and 2nd yr ump. Thanks for restoring my sanity Irish...I was watching Tinsher's feet and she looks like the textbook definition of a replant to me. I was starting to wonder if I really understood the rule, especially after the first IP call and the coach saying she'd fixed it!

PS We just got throught the top of the 6th without a mention of 45-52 degrees!

Wow, bases loaded no body out, and no run.

Do ya think that a certain outfielder may be starting to breathe again?

You know, if you pay attention to what these TH say, especially about freshman players, you would think that these girls didn't play competitive ball before showing up at college.

Perhaps. That was a clutch double play they turned.

I can't believe how many pitches DeFelice fouled off. Irish I try not to pay too much attention to the common-taters...otherwise I think I'd be insane. ;)

There are some coaches who have a similar attitude.

Oh and did you all know that a softball is, in fact, not soft?

As I've said often on the various boards. Illegal pitches, call the early, call them when seen, and make them stop.

I think the THs in the UCLA - FL game have reached a new low. How is it that NONE of them know what a running lane violation is?

LMan Sat May 31, 2008 08:01pm

you think John 'gimme another beer' Kruk is going to know a softball rule? :D

Welpe Sat May 31, 2008 08:12pm

So I'm not the only one that thinks Kruk is half drunk in the booth? Hearing him explain illegal pitches has been rather...entertaining. Considering he was a first basemen, I would've hoped he knows that rule or at least hoped he ever wondered "what the funny little line is for".

Wouldn't that require them to know what 3' is?
