Got to my scheduled game and the JV for visitors did not
have enough players, so no game there. Started Varsity
a little ahead of time and finished a 5 inning 11-1 game in 1
hour and 11 minutes. Teams hustled in and out between the
innings and never over a minute. Even tho the game was one
sided, it went very well. No unusual plays no substitutions
for either side. Just straight softball.
LOVE IT.
Got paid more for the travel than for the game. :D

Sounds like a great time.

I've been scheduled for 5 Fed softball games. 4 rainouts and today's games cancled becuse of a 22degree wind chill. Such wimps!

I've lost 7 games in the last 6 days because of weather.

I've done 11 Fed baseball games, 2 baseball scrimages, and one softball scrimage. Maybe I'll get that first softball game in soon.

Yup, I've been able to get in 2 games so far - lost a single game Monday with the rain and a double header today - wind chill in single digits. Got another double header scheduled Sunday, but weather doesn't look too promising.

Steve & Roger,
And I just thought I was behind in game participation
I sincerely hope that things get better for you gentlemen.
I am suppose to go to Houston week after next to do a
Parochial School tournament that I have gotten to enjoy. It
has grown pretty big in the last three years. It is an
organization where you can really tell the handfull that are
taking part in other softball associations. Most just out
for the exercise. Rarely disagreements. Coaches don't yell
at the kids or Blues.

Hope the skies clear and chill departs and sun breaks out   [roger & steve wearing shades]
so as you y'all can get in some games. :D

I had a big cross town rilvary cancelled on Tuesday due to rain. It was made up Thursday, where I had a 25 mph north wind and a wind chill of 16. I honestly wish they had the foresight to not play under those conditions, but apparently the coaches were anxious to get this one under their belts.

I just love to hear all ya vets complainin' about not gettin' any games in yet.

I have one (1) Fed Softball game scheduled this year. That's one more than last year. It's in May.

I do have about six Fed Baseball dates, the first one next week. Maybe it won't be 25 degrees any more by then.

Now, come ASA season, I could get busy . . .

Sure wish you guys could come to the Dallas area for a while. I've done 31 high school games so far and have at least one scheduled every night this week. HELP!!

I spent this past weekend between two ASA tournaments. Called fifteen games - 10 plates - because of a shortage of umpires. Thought sure I'd be sore today, but so far I can still walk!!

Another ASA tournament set for Friday & Saturday.

If any of you plan to come through the Dallas area, be sure to bring your gear.

It does get busy around these parts this time of the year. I think I have had 26 or so high school games not counting the three tournaments I have already worked. I was supposed to call an ASA tournament down around the metromess this weekend, but was unable to due to illness. Hope it wasn't the one you were working.

Damn Gary
That is my kind of tournament. Good job.

Gary, Scott.

Fellows we have got to stop mentioning the fact that in this
area we are getting lots of games in. Seems as though the
weather where Roger and Steve M. perform is really damping
their performance. :D

I did two games tonite. Started at 4:30 and finished the
second of the two at 7:01. Both run rule games.
Had a triple play in the varsity game [2nd game]. R1 on 3rd - R2
on 1B - B3 hits shot to F5 playing even with bag. Catches ball,
tags R1 who was unable to get back quick enough
and fires to F3 to complete the triple banger. Don't know what 1B
coach and R2 thinking of. Everything else routine in the game.

Well, we got the Sunday games in and it wasn't all that cold. 'Course it snowed today and got some sleet & rain tonight, so tomorrow's 2 games may be in jeopardy. Have another 2 scheduled for Wednesday and my first high school baseball game the next day. Don't have any high school softball scheduled until late next week. Once I finally get into the schedule, I'll be averaging about 9 games a week. It's supposed to hit 50 here in a couple of days.

Roger Greene Mon Mar 25, 2002 11:15pm

Well, I finally got in a softball game. Great weather. Mid 70s sun shining.

I've completed 17 baseball games with no arguments. Two big blow ups in this softball game!!

Bottom of third, R1 stealing and batted ball goes dead in right field. (Fences only went about 90 feet down left and right side of field, then dead ball line to outfield fence.
I am hollering dead ball and standing in inside B position as F9 goes into dbt and throws ball in. BR slides into 3rd on close play, and of course no call is made and finally the coaches listen to me. Two assistants and head coach enter the infield and start yelling at me at the same time when I place BR on 2nd, and R1 back out of dugout to 3rd. I end up restricting head coach to dugout after three warnings to return to his coaching box when he continued to argue the base award. (assistants had enough sense to quite down and back off.) Now 2 or 3 parents are roaming up and down fence on first base side yelling about the award for 2 innings.

Finally in bottom of 9th (Why do games like that always end up going into extra innings?) we have R1 and R2, two outs and a 2-2 count. Batter hits groud ball up middle. Ball passes behind R2. F6 moves toward ball, passes outside R2 by mere inches as R2 leans away from her to avoid contact. F6 is never closer to the ball than 3 or 4 feet. R2 scores as the throw comes to the plate. Home team is all over the infield celebrating, Entire coaching staff (even restricted head coach) and some players from visitors runs out surrounding me yelling that there was interference. I reply to Assistant coach "There was no contact or inteference" and turn to leave. I'm followed out of infield and part way across the outfield with coaches and players behind yelling.

Don't you just love coaches teaching youth sportsmanship?

Roger Greene

ntxblue Tue Mar 26, 2002 08:40am

Roger,

Did you file a report on the "restricted" coach coming back out onto the field? Coaches teaching sportsmanship - They have to know what it is before they can teach it!!

Scott,

You had to go and get sick this past weekend, didn't you? One of the tournaments was in McKinney. I probably did several of "your" games. Mike and Robert were there - thought sure I'd see you, too. They have a couple of other tournaments there in the next month. Hope to see you then.

Glen,

I do feel for the guys living where the weather won't cooperate. Felt real guilty yesterday - I was praying for rain!!

We need to keep talking about how many games we're getting to call around here. Maybe we can convince Steve, Roger, Mike, Dakota, & Elaine to move here. Sure would upgrade our ranks!!

Gary
