What (if) anything do you have?

Base runners on 2nd & 3rd.
1 out
1 strike on batter
next pitch--batters swings and misses pitch and ball gets past catcher.
Coach(s) and fans are hollering "run-run-run" for the runner at third to come home. Batter who now has only 2 strikes starts running to first. The first baselady is running toward home plate to cover plate for runner advancing from third. Catcher and first baselady has no chance of outing runner advancing from third. Question--if batter who is running towards first and firstlady who is running towards home to make play on runner advancing from third "collide", what do we have (if anyting)?

 What I have is a question... Is the firstlady named Hillary? :D

That would depend on whether there was a play to be made at home and, in the umpire's judgment, F3 was the one who would have made that play. If that is the case, interference would be the call.

BTW, I don't feel that the softball field is any place to "out" anyone, even if she is one the "other" team.

I am not sure what you mean by "a play to be made". Obviously there was a play or else there would be no reason to ask the queston. As stated there "was no chance of outing the runner advancing from third".

This is what Mike is referring to. If no one has a chance of making a play, then there is no play upon which INT can be called.

Remember, interference is the act of a member of the offense that HINDERS someone's ability to make a play on a runner. If there's no chance in he11 to successfully make a play, then you have no interference.

Take this example. R1 on 1B with no outs. The ball's hit to the shortstop (who has a very weak arm), who tags 2B for the force out. B2 is a fast runner and has already crossed 1B. Shortstop throws to 1B, but R1 is in the way and swats the ball down (in a defensive move, as the ball was going towards his head). Would you call interference on that? No, because there's no chance in he11 there could have been a play at 1B - the runner's already there.

That's what Mike is getting at. If there's no play that could be made, then you have nothing.

Not to be a party pooper but...

I'm not one to get easily offended but you need to stop the Clinton bashing. It's old, tired, and not very original.

And it's really not appropriate for this forum.

Off my holier then thou cloud now.

This week, at a McCain rally, conservative Bill Cunningham used Barack Obama's middle name, calling him "Barack Hussein Obama." McCain criticized Cunningham and publicly apologized for the use of Obama's middle name. To conservatives, it is a mystery why Cunningham's remark warranted an apology. But then John Hitler McCain is a mysterious man.

:D

Skahtboi Wed May 14, 2008 10:48am

Just had to provide a little equal opportunity there.

Hey, she opened the door. Nobody asked her to move to NY to purchase a Senate seat with full intention of leaving for Washington as soon as possible.

And if you want the post to stay on the format's point, who in this world could possibly have softer ones than Hillary's boy....er, husband?

Cheyney was born in Nebraska and grew up in Wyoming, where he was later elected as a House representative.

I am not bashing anyone, joking about the first pen...nevermind, the former President maybe....but my comment was based on no matter who wins in November it is going to be a long time coming to see green grass again.

The story went, not verified by me, was Cheney legal residence was Texas. But couldn't run as VP due to Bush being a legal resident of Texas. So he owned a hunting cabin in Montana and changed his legal residence to Montana........Like I said unverified by me. hence a form of carpetbagging....

Unlike the rumor that he might have had some connection to Halliburton, the corporation that has done financially quite well in our nation rebuilding exercise....;)

Ah, I assumed (we all know what happens there!) that you were referring to him doing the same thing that Hillary did, establish residency in another state and run for Congress. It is similar but I would argue not the same thing.

Even though he divested himself of Halliburton...agh, I really don't feel like rehashing that again.

I think we both can agree that too many politicians (on both sides) have their hands way too deep in the cookie jar though, yes? :D

Maybe we can talk about a lighter topic such as global warming or baseball vs. softball umpires.

Agreed but this thread had gone in the direction of only bashing one set of crooks. I just wanted to point out that there are truly no virgins, even on the "right". So lets make this an equal opportunity thread.

Or we could talk about baseball versus softball umps
