Hey folks,

How many of you gents and ladies are seeing runners on 3rd linger off the base until the BR gets to 1st after a walk?

I have only done a couple of scrimages so far, but so far I'm seeing the old behavior of R1 (on 3rd) retreating back to the base as soon as the pitcher gets the ball in the circle. So either the coaches aren't teaching the new rule or the players haven't gotten used to it yet... or something.

How about the rest of you folks? What kind of behavior are you seeing?

RE look back rule

Sam,I have done two scrimages so far and in both games as soon as the catcher returns the ball to the pitcher runners are heading back to the base.

Let's see...my season is half over this week, already called scores of games and three tournaments, including one "elite" one this past weekend. So far, I have yet to see any impact from the new wording on the lookback rule, so I am guessing that it is either a matter of time or else no one really feels that there is any advantage in staying out there any longer than in the past. If I was going to see it at all this season, I would have guessed that this past weekend would have been my best chance.

Had my first attempt at a walked batter dallying towards
1B with a runner at third. This runner dumbly watched the
BR going to first and got her BUTT picked off big time. The
pitcher just wheeled and threw a strike to 3B. Also had my
first double re-entry of the season. Two small schools, 4-0
visitors winning in just under 1hr20mins.

Watched about a dozen HS Games and called six 14U - 18U games so far...........

Never paid attention in the games I was a fan at.......but did when I was umpiring............

R3 pretty much heads back as soon as F1 received the ball.........

I just had a phone call from one of the local coaches - he also coaches basketball and they got eliminated last week, so now his girls can switch to softball. Anyway, this guy is a thinker and teaches his kids to think, he's looking for a way to make this into an offensive advantage. If there's a way, I suspect he'll find it.

Steve........I would guess that the coach could have a good lead on an R3 on a BB.........and send her the second the BR touched first hoping to catch the defense napping.........

This would be a bit dangerous..........but might work once on an unsuspecting team.......

If I were a coach..........that's how I would work it......
