Runner hit by thrown ball

Little Leage Softball...

Bases loaded and batter/runner hits one to the fence. three runs score. Batter runner is going for third base when F4 tries to throw her out, ball hits the back of runners legs allowing the runner to be safe at third.

There was no call on the play and runner is safe at third.

Should there have been a call?

As described, I would have the runner safe at third and the ball remaining live.

Don't know LL for sure, but anywhere else, it would have to be intentional interference for any thing except what Michael said.
What kind of call are you looking for?

This is correct. Unless the interference is intentional, the ball is live. I believe intentional interference is a dead ball, runner is out, all other runners return to the last base attained.

Which in this case is safe at home.

I don't understand why anyone would think there should be a call. The ball hit the runner on the back of the legs.

How in the name of Topo Gigio could anyone even bring up "intention" shy of the runner raising or waving their arms as running away from the thrower?

It's another case of looking for something that isn't there.

I was just covering both sides of the coin, not wanting anyone to believe that a runner can never interfere with a thrown ball.

Thank you all

Being a new coach not accustomed to all of the rules, I depend on the officials to know the rules that I don't.

I was sure that there shouldn't be a call on the play and there wasn't. I wanted to make sure that I am correct.

Thanks for the responses...:)

You are welcome and I suggest you get current on the rules ASAP. Knowing them will benifit your team.
