Lighted glove
I was doing a 10U rec league game by myself last night. After several batters I notice that when F4 punches her fist in her glove, lights flash just like the sneakers. I searched this forum and did not find any reference to this type of glove. Has anyone seen this before?
|
I have seen them before, I was teaching a baseball clinic to 5-7 y/o and there was a brother and sister in the class with gloves like that. I thought it was the strangest thing.
|
I bought my 6 yr old daughter one. She thinks it's great. I have never seen one on a field.

Well, it's inevitable, so I just as well start.
Is this a distraction to the batter if a pitcher illuminates the lights during the windup? :D |

What's next? One that sings like Billy Bass?
I still like my Hot Moms indicator better. |
I talked to the Parks & Rec Director last night and the fielder's coach tonight. We all agreed that it is a distraction for batters. We also agreed that since it has lights it also has plastic or glass and if the lights break that could be dangerous for the fielder and for runners, especially for this age group. I won't be seeing it any more.

I am quite sure blinking lights on a glove would not be something I could handle. If I run across one, its going away.

You guys are making WAAAAAY too much of this. No self-respecting kid over 10 would use one of these things. http://www.rawlingsgear.com/products...ws/LS95B_1.jpg It comes in blue and pink. The lighting effect is only in the pocket and only when hit by the ball. You know... AFTER the batter has swung! And, it can be turned off. It is marketed for T-ball players. So some 10 year old thinks it is cute. Big deal. |

Web lights up with "chasing lights" whenever the ball is caught. |
Yes, it is inaccurate. That is the exact model my 6 yr old wanted. Outside of the web lights up. She thinks it's the greatest glove ever - Lights up; favorite color; left handed.
If you see it on a ball field (I highly doubt it), and if it bothers you, just have the player push the on/off button. Problem solved. |

And, yes, this is a glove for children. I guess it is just the old man in me that holds onto the thought of someone getting a glove, taking care of it and using it for years. Hell, I'm still on my 3rd glove and I got my first around 1958. |

Its an ejectable offense. Rule 14.1 Anyone who makes a complete travesty of the sport shall be ejected and their parents shall also be ejected. EXCEPTION: If the mother of the ejected player is hot and sitting on the bench in such a way as to make between innings more enjoyable; only the father shall be ejected. |

) ( Either way, we are NOT going to see one of these gloves in any competitive softball game. Sheesh. |
>>>URBAN LEGEND ALERT!!!!<<<
I seem to remember that when the "athletic" shoes with the lights built into the heel first came out, there was concern because one of the chemicals that made the lights work was Mercury. There were terrible visions of one of those light pockets breaking open and Mercury being spilled everywhere..... Of course, there was never any documented proof...just the "my brother's best friend's cousin that is married to the guy who delivers boxes that the shoe company uses to put the shoes in" told me so. |
