Are there any other Umpire related forum that are worth checking out?

Dutch Alex Tue Apr 15, 2008 02:06am

Don't you think any other "Umpire related forum" would be less of the same you have around here?

scroobs Tue Apr 15, 2008 08:10am

I'm wondering what other sites (if any) are worth a look. It seems to me that there should be more busy sites for umpires, considering all the umpires there are across the nation.

NCASAUmp Tue Apr 15, 2008 08:13am

I've actually started writing a website geared specifically for umpires. It's not a forum, but instead something that's geared a little more toward newer umpires who may not have a mentor.

I still haven't decided if I want to put it in the form of a blog, or if I want to structure it like a lesson. What would you rather see?

Agree with Alex, but if you want HS, for NFHS only:

You missed the boat on the best one.. maybe it will reopen.

Stu Clary Tue Apr 15, 2008 09:10am

Wade: I doubt it.

Skahtboi Tue Apr 15, 2008 09:12am

There is also Georgia Blue Forum, a relatively new place that has yet to take off.

You don't mean the unmonitored, always a pain the a$$, McGriff's do you? It may have been the first, but certainly this is the best.

Stu Clary Tue Apr 15, 2008 09:23am

For it's content, not it's forum: http://www.cactusumpires.com/

I'm guessing he meant Rob Drake's site.

If you like to argue with coaches :D , here is a site:

Problem is, that site has been VERY quiet since they made it such a PITA to even log in.

Something that just annoys me about that site... maybe it is because the umpire forum section is called "the umpire corner" --- Corner??

You know, you are correct. I don't know if I have even been there at all this year.

Dont really matter.. they dont ask many rules questions for umpires. Ezteams gets more rules questions. I dont think rules are their big thing. Mostly a BS forum. I'm a forum "whore" though, I just post BS were ever.. I like that forum because I know so many of the teams that go there.

Their umpire corner mostly consists of talking about bryce, who is the biggest dancing bear dolt in the blue. He moon walks between pitches and all the parents woo and ahhh.

Me either, I do have to login, but everything is saved on my puter and it takes 2 seconds.. a pain, but not the end of planet earth. Overall a crappy layout, but that is not new at all.

Yeah, it's a breeze. That's why the site is almost completely dead.

Obviously people are having trouble (and they've really done a number on it with their "upgrades").. the simple plain truth is, I dont have trouble with it.

I have no idea about what you are talking. Every time I log on there are new posts, so your idea of "dead" obviously doesn't mean the same thing to you as it does to me.

Dakota Wed Apr 16, 2008 10:08pm

I don't know how often you log on, but the volume and frequency of posts is down significantly. A year+ ago, there would be several new posts every couple of hours, if not more frequently. It was easily more active than this site. Now, it can go for a day or more with nothing new posted. Very few of the old-time regulars post there anymore, whether umpires or coaches.

The logging on annoyances are numerous, especially compared to how it worked before they "upgraded". The site has will not keep you logged in for long unless you are continuously active. If you go to the forum and just log in, you are taken to a generic "welcome" page instead of back to the forum, and there is no way back to the forum directly from where you are. If you log in as part of a reply, you are taken to the reply page, but you cannot back up again to the forum - you will be taken to the generic welcome page again. While I have posted a few times recently, the site is still very much a PITA to use. For an advertizer supported commercial site, this behavior seems almost suicidal.
