Suspended Game

Question for Texas Umpires.

Does anyone know if Texas adopted the Suspended game rule. We had
several games going on Friday when a downpour hit the area and all games
were stopped. Most before the 3rd inning. Coaches are now wanting to
know if the game should be started over, or picked up where left off.

How can you pick a suspended game up a view days later if you can't garantee that you'll have the same line-up for both teams AND the same officials present?

Do't know how your rule-setting is but for the ISF it's simple:
At a Olympic, World or Continental-tournament AND ONLY when a game is suspended BY the Tournament UIC this game can be resumed. Otherwise it MUST be replayed (rule 5, sec 3g)

Glen, in Texas that is still up to the districts to decide. In other words, the coaches who were asking you should be the very people who have the answer. Some districts require that the game is started over, no matter what point it was suspended. Some only require picking the games up from the point they were suspended.

Alex. To answer your question, usually every effort is made to make sure that the same umpires can work the game. If not, information is usually shared between the PU of the suspended game and the PU of the make-up to insure that both line-ups and any recorded changes or conferences are on the line-up card of the new official. Just takes a couple of minutes by phone. Then, at the game, the PU can insure that both books reflect the information that he has. If the coach cannot field the same line-up, that will become his problem (though this is rare) and substitutions will be made where necessary.

Thanks Scott. I finally had time to look it up.

See section g in the attached excerpt from the 2007-2008 UIL Softball rules. It states the game shall be re-started from the beginning on district and non-district games unless specified by the district in minutes prior to the season. The rule for playoff games is to continue from where play was suspended.
