Gpa?
Had a fellow umpire return from the Nat school in Mass last weekend and was talking about a "new" stance while working the slot. Had something to do with pelvic. I had caught wind of this this winter but didn't think much about it until he returned. What can anyone tell me about this. He was told "you won't find it in the book".

Ok a little slow...OBG???

It is in the book, page 193. It really isn't anything new other than the acronym assigned to it. A good, open toe-heel set up in the slot would set the umpire with a Good Pelvic Alignment. This does give the umpire another focal point to check their stance. |

Yes married for 29 years. Guess I was trying to relate OBG to softball.....

I don't think it's new this year. Don't have the book with me so can't give the actual reference, but pretty sure it was stated in the 2007 ASA book.

The reference in the 2007 ASA Umpire's Rule Book/Manual is p 199. Still waiting for my 2008 book to see if it really isn't there this year :D |
Its year two for this is. Not so great either....
Hopefully ASA just goes the way of NCAA and allows the umpires to use their stance. ASA is too set on locking everyone to one single thing.. as if what works for one person automatically works for everyone. College softball Thurs night on TV.. umpire in the scissors. Very refreshing! Obviously, it is grossly incorrect to mandate 1 single stance for everyone. It does not take a genius to know different stances will work for different people. Evaluate on quality, not preordained position which, because of God, DNA, and McDonalds, may not work for everyone. |
