LBR twist

Ok had a call last night that was pretty easy, but made me think. R3 play at plate she was safe, R2 rounded 3rd and was looking about 1/2 way down line. F2 tosses ball to F1(near plate) R2 starts walking back to 3rd slowly, when R2 is about an inch from 3rd she stops and breaks for home, F1 finally sees it and throws but too late R2 is safe at home. Defensive coach wants LBR, but she was started back prior to ball in circle stopped only once and made her advance quickly.

So here is the question, what if the runner steps beside (outside 3rd base in foul territory) but close to the base making F1 think she has reached the base and is "locked" there till the pitch, then breaks for home? Just one of those things you think about when there is a close play like that. I mean if you have passed a base you are considered to have touched it....but she wouldn't have passed it, just reached it so I wouldn't have an out for leaving early.....I could have an out for delay if she stayed there too long before touching, or breaking for home. What say you all?

I say you owe a dollar to the "WHAT IF?" beer fund.

If the ball is not in the circle, the is no LBR, so it really doesn't make any difference where the runner is, still or moving.

ok guess I left out the part where F1 continued to walk to circle and entered it and quit paying attention to R2 who then stopped (almost at 3rd) then broke for home.

So my question is still if F1 enters circle as R2 is retreating to 3rd and she steps beside the base then breaks for home do you agree we have a nothing play on?

If she is far enough off the base that you would rule her OUT on a LBR violation if she stands there too long, then she is also entitled to attempt to advance for home if she does NOT stand there too long.

Dakota,
I like the way you put that. I was thinking the same thing, just didn't think of it that way. So the way you worded it makes it seem more logical! Bringing logic to an illogical world once again!!!

Softball, the final frontier. These are the adventures of some really lame umpire/star trek jokes. Their mission, to wreak havoc on their fellow umpires, to bring laughter to the community, and to bodly make inferences that have never been made before.

Who was "Capt. Slog" that Kirk talked to at the very opening of each episode?
