Some calls just seem so unfair...

FED ruleset. Batter hits ball... ball chops downward and hits plate and bounces up and towards first base line.... batter-runner is running towards first and balls comes down behind the batter-runner and hits her from behind in the legs. batter-runner has done nothing illegal or intentional, yet its a dead-ball and a out due to interference. (someday's my job just sucks)

I had a similar situation last year. Except she popped the ball up and headed to first, the ball hit her on top of her head. It took a second for the correct call to register with me. From the look on the girls face you would have thought I had pulled the eyes off of her teddy bear!

I dunno there cajun, I dont have a problem with that call. Thats part of learning how to bunt properly. It doesnt bother me to make the call one bit. I had a similar call yesterday except it was from the front down 1B line and hit her in the knee after she had taken a couple of steps.

Edited to render it in English.

Now you're one out closer to the thirty-nine outs needed (or forty-two if the visiting team is winning in the seventh inning).

I, also, have no problem with that call. It is part of the game, and what we get paid for. I have made similar calls many times, and felt no remorse.

I think you guys are mis-reading Cajun's post. He didn't stay that he didn't make the call or wouldn't make the call. He is just bringing a light-hearted post to the board, talking about a play that just doesn't seem fair - but you've got to make the call anyway.

I know where he is coming from; I had one of those calls a few years ago. Varsity District Championship game, girl squares to bunt. Pitch is right at her. She pushes the bat at the ball, maybe trying to bunt it; maybe trying to protect herself. She does neither and gets nailed in the ribs.

She is flat on her back; tears in her eyes. I looked down at her and said, "Young lady, I know that hurts like hell, but its going to hurt even more when you find out I have to call a strike on you!"

She smiled; got up and dusted herself off, and got back in the box, ready to battle again.

And....the best ending to this story would be she hit a HR.....:D

Naw, WAY better would have been if there were already two strikes on her.
:p

HR would only make for a longer game. Why would you want that?

You think thats bad?

I had to tolerate an entire tournament this weekend at around 70-72F with a mild breeze.

Glen,
Wait a week or so and then come on up here. And forget about going where Tom lives - it'll be June before their snow melts.
