Cold Home Plate
 

What does this phrase mean? It's part of a local 8U ruleset.

It means you can't steal home. You can only score on a hit or if forced.

Refers to a baserunning restriction for the younger kids, usually where the pitchers and catchers are not as skilled.

Your league might have it's own take on how they handle this. Generally, it means that a runner on third may not advance to home on a steal, wild pitch or passed ball. They may only advance on a batted ball, if forced home due to a base award (such as, bases loaded walk) or possibly on a base award for a ball thrown out of play.

That's the general gist of it. There may be nuances to how your league has written their rule that we wouldn't know about.

Last year, ASA made this a 10U B rule only. ASA dropped the rule entirely this year. Local leagues can continue to use it, but they will need to specifically add it to their local rules. I would strongly recommend they adopt, word for word, the former ASA rule instead of ad hocing something that will not cover everything.

Cold home plate is what we have had in north Texas this week, with 10-12 inches of snow from two cold fronts that have passed through.

pffff. (I'm starting to like that word....)

-8 outside right now. About 15-18 inches of snow cover in my front yard that has been there since mid-December (grown and shrunk from time to time, but never got below 8-10 inches of cover). But on the other hand (please note that I didn't use your "pfff" word to start this post off), Texas isn't used to seeing a flake of snow at this time of year, not to mention a foot of it. And most of our districts are already into district play.

And besides that, when we went through that spell of 80 degree temps back in January, I was convinced that spring time was already here.

You know what they say about the weather in Texas, don't you? If you don't like it, just wait a minute. Case in point. 9 inches of snow here last night. By tomorrow it is supposed to be close to 70.
