Since I only call ASA/NFHS, I need to know a couple of things about NSA, USSSA, AFA. Renee's team is playing tournaments in these this spring and summer, and the manager
relies on me to know ALL the rules. Last year, I thought he
and his assistant would, but no-o-o-o-o-o! Help please! And if anyone is ISA, throw that in, too. Thanks guys!

1. In ASA, the player doesn't have to throw the ball to the
base on a dead ball appeal. What about in NSA, USSSA and
AFA? Are live ball appeals the same--tag the runner or the base?

2. Batting order may have 9 or 10 with DP/DEFO in ASA with
the DEFO in the 10th spot. How many can bat in the other
sanctions? I know some have EP.

Elaine,

I don't call those guys, but many have their rule books on line.

Here are some (not all are the most recent year, however):

Elaine,

For AFA questions 1 & 2 are the same as ASA. One of major
differences in AFA is if the batter is attempting to bunt
and leaves the bat over the plate, regarless of where the
ball is - high, low, inside, outside, etc., it is gonna be
a strike. Batter has to withdraw the bat. First time this
happen to me, pitch was over everyones head..felt kinda..
well, dumb, but that is the rule.

I don't do the others. However, I printed the USSSA rules
from the web. Might want to check on their DP/DEFO, nor
could I get clarification on the live appeal. They have it
but does not say tag runner and/or base. There are some on
here that call it, I know they will be here later..

Good luck to your daughter.

Thanks for everything, so far.
But, Dakota, I couldn't resist---
ISA is not on the ISF website, but I found the ISA.
I actually wanted comments from my fellow umpires since it's not really a busy time and anybody can read the rule books.

LOL

Elaine,

I made myself a "cheat sheet" of USSSA and Fed differences last year. Its kind of a quick and dirty look at the differences to study just before doing a USSSA tournament.

I'd be glad to share it with you if you E-mail me. It has not been updated with the Fed changes this year yet.

USSSA is very similar to Fed in most of their rules. They do allow an EP and a DH in the lineup at the same time. Appeals are identical to Fed except that a runner may only be appealed once, no "verbal only" appeals alowed, and the pitcher must make dead ball appeals.

No, no ... you can't get away with editing your post and claiming I can't read. I <u>saved</u> your original post just to protect myself from such wild and potentially damaging accusations that I, and <u>umpire</u>, can't see. Here is what you originally posted:

See? You said IS<big><b>F</b></big>.

<b>Vindicated!</b>

Of course, any accusations that I edited Elaine's post would only be made by people engaging in the politics of personal attack and will not be tolerated.

:D :D :D :D

Maybe this board needs to add a "smiley" with clear glasses in addition to the "cool" guy with sunglasses!

Dakota,

I did not notice any <b><i>edited by Elaine</b></i>
on that post. :D

I swear---I did not edit my original post!! I said ISA not
ISF. If Renee was playing ISF, I would be in heaven!
