The opposite of framing...

Odd behavior by a catcher yesterday. She acted like a very experienced catcher, knew the game, blocked / caught just about everything, but she had one odd behavior...

On close pitches, she would lift her glove up like a fielder would to to show the ball on a catch. Kind of the complete opposite of framing the pitch.

Were there runners on base at the time? Maybe she's getting into the routine of preparing herself for a steal?

No - it was like she was showing me she caught the ball, but these pitches weren't in the dirt. It was just odd.

Maybe she used to suck as a catcher, and was rather proud of herself for making the improvement? :)

Yeah, that's odd behavior. Maybe that's some sort of compensation some coach taught her. Who knows? Weird!
