cool weather uniforms
 

A while back, there was a thread about cold weather wear for umpires, but I don't recall long-sleeved tee shirts or underarmor-type undershirt being discussed.

Assuming the color is proper (white with powder, e.g.) is it proper (ASA) to wear a long-sleeved tee shirt or other undershirt with a short-sleeved umpire shirt and no jacket?

By "proper" I mean official ASA, not would a local league or UIC allow it.

Personally, I don't like the look of long white sleeves(or any other color for that matter) sticking out from under a short sleeved powder blue shirt(or any other color umpire shirt for that matter). I think that it looks very hokie and very unprofessional. If you wear a long sleeve shirt during cold weather, there is no reason why you cannot wear a jacket over it.

I agree in how it looks. I was wondering what official ASA has to say about it - I can't find anything other than an undershirt needs to be white with powder, etc.

Umpire jackets are not very warm, so a layering approach makes sense on a cold day. Starts out cold in the morning, so you have a long sleeved tee shirt, your umpire shirt, and your umpire jacket on. As it warms up, you want to remove the jacket. I agree it looks tacky. But is it allowed?

No. All undergarments worn must be covered. If you wear a long sleeve undergarment, you must wear either an ASA jacket or the ASA sweater (if you have one from years ago).

Sounds like you need velcro sleeves on that UA so they can be removed quickly.:cool:

No. The response would be is if you are that chilly, weat a jacket, or sweater if you still have one.

College has just OK'd the long sleeve navy shirt. Perhaps ASA will come up with their version of it. I agree that a long sleeved t-shirt/undershirt under the uniform shirt looks lousy.

I have found that "umpires" that dress like this also hasn't washed their ball bag in six months and usually wears their hat backwards under the mask or is wearing a watch cap. Either way, they always have the hood up and hands in their pocket and the mask never comes off.

Not that I need to spend more money on umpire shirts, but it would be kind of nice to have a long sleeved shirt option.

Oh boy. I know some of those folks. I cringe whenever I see they are working a game somewhere. Once upon a time, they read the part of rule 10 that essentially sez "I get to make stuff up." - and they take this to heart.

Well, now, in all fairness - these clowns may have thought about reading part of the book - once or twice.

There is a power blue long sleeve shirt, however, in Texas it is not authorized
for ASA or NFHS. That is according to W. Sparks. However, if you should wear
it under you jacket, as well as a long sleeve T who would know.

If I'm wearing a jacket onto the field, I do not have a regular uniform shirt on underneath it. I may even have a sweatshirt, with lots of layers - or just a ong sleeved t-shirt/turtleneck.
I had a couple of dates this year where I had 7 & 8 layers on, with 2 pairs of gloves - and still froze.

I always hated those kind of dates. Sometimes it is just best to break the relationship off and call the next girl on the list. If they start cold it is very difficult to warm them up and in my experience even ong sleeved tee shirts just don't work to impress the ladies anymore.:p

Damn global warming! It's all Bush's fault!!! :p

Man, I could have used some global warming in a few of those games this year. At least, maybe some local warming...............:D
