What is a UIC?

Ok I was asked what UIC stood for. And there was a couple of opinions

UIC-Umpire in Charge
UIC-Umpire in Chief

I always thought it was Umpire in Chief....but where does the Chief come from? Hey stupid question I know but I couldn't answer it.....

UIC = Umpire in Chief

UIC = One who resolves umpires who can't resolve themselves. Just kidding. ;)
