Mechanic Question

All this talk about a runner passing another runner got me thinking.........:(

Runner falls down, runner behinds her runs pass fallen runner. Do you kill the play on the spot-"dead ball-runner out" or do you let it play out then kill it.....

Ball is live. Runner is out. ASA 8.7.D EFFECT.

Essentially the same as a runner tagged out, other runners still live.

I've never had to make the call. A good mechanic I have seen was a partner that pointed with the left hand to the trailing runner that had passed and gave the hammer with the right, yelling, "She's out! She's out!" He then went back into the set position which seem to give everyone a good understanding that it was not a dead ball.

I've only made the call once. Though the last time a partner of mine called it, he called the runner that was PASSED as being out. This was a vet of probably 20+ years. Maybe he had a burrito that gave him brain farts that night...
