OK........
I have been thinking about this for awhile........ I am starting a section on my website for umpire photos....... I think that in the last few years we have all gotten to know each other pretty well......but for the most part......would not recognize each other in a crowd (Me excluded......you have all seen my ugly mug)........:D If you would like ... and I understand if you don't want to......send me a picture (umpiring prefered, but not necessary).....and I will post it on my website along with your moniker..... glen (papa smurf) has agreed to be the first victim......(glen has been a very special person to my youngest daughter Katie.....and she thinks he is Kewl.....lol). Also, if you want......send pictures of your family, especially any that are softball related.....I think we would all like to shake hands with each other....... If this is a good Idea.......let me know......if it is a bad idea........let me know.......but for now.......it will be me and glen....... And in keeping with the tradition of Joel telling his most embarrasing stories......I will throw up an embarrasing umpire photo of myself.........:D Joel [email protected] http://www.eteamz.com/sites/gcbumpire [Edited by Gulf Coast Blue on Dec 31st, 2001 at 07:15 PM] |
That is cool blue, I have a few good pictures!
|
Doug.......please send em on........
I knew there would be some reluctance......BUT, did not figure that there would be this much.........(grin) Joel [email protected] |
Joel:
I would be more than happy to send you some, but, uh, there is a slight problem. Last summer when I was working a state tournament, you know all those "for hire" photographers that show up?! Well....they kept complaining to me that even with my plate gear on I kept breaking their lenses. So...that is how photogenic I am. If there is any other way that I can help...please let me know. :D Scott |
I'll go through my stacks of photos to see if there is something that will not be completely embarassing.
|
I kinda like the idea, Joel. I'll try & get a picture taken in a couple of months and send ya one.
|
Scott.......as you can see from mine and glen's picures......my sole purpose is to scare small children.....:D
So yours would fit right in! BTW......many of mine came from the guys/gals who take pictures at tournaments.........they have been really nice and gave me all the ones they took........ Joel [Edited by Gulf Coast Blue on Jan 3rd, 2002 at 04:28 PM] |

When did you say you were going to be in College Station? March, April? I will drop in and bring my digital camera so Joel will have you in his gallery. [grin] glen |
Steve........in College Station?
Tony Hix (UIC for that Area) was UIC for the 18U State I called this past year. If you are going to be there Steve.......count me in.....it's only a few hours up the road!! Joel The first cold adult beverage is on me. |
I'll take any & all cold frosty ault beverages I can get. From what I've been led to believe, I'll be there over Labor Day weekend - men's B nationals. I haven't gotten final word, yet, though.
|
I just can't believe you guys didn't tell me about this site!!! Joel, I'll try to mail you a copy if I could get
your mailing address or I'll try to get my friend to scan a pic and email it. Elaine |

do not have anything against one that does. Same as for smoking, gave that up after triple by-pass surgery. Hope things do work out and we can meet up in College Station. I worked a tournmanet there this year. Houston Power won the 18U division. glen |

I got tournament weekend of 12/13 Jan., will take digital cam with me, see if I can find a friend to take a couple. Maybe can get Gary to let me take his pic too. glen |
Glen,
I plan on bringing my digital camera with me to Beaumont next weekend. Figure if it's digital we can "adjust" the pictures!! My daughter will be with the Dallas Mustangs. She and some of her teammates were not with the team when you saw them last month. Looking forward to meeting you. Gary |
Gary:
Dallas Mustangs. Why does that name sound so familiar??? Have our girls run into your girls at one of the many Metro tourneys? My daughter played with "Sting" since its inception through last year. Scott |
Quote:
I am sure *Sting* has been in some of our AFA affairs. However, I realize there are several teams playing under the name *Sting*. We had a Sting in our last tournament along with the Mustangs. What City, or County name? glen |
The teams technically originate from Grayson County. There is a "Sting" team in each of the age divisions with different coaches coaching that age bracket.
|
Scott,
Sting!! That used to be the "arch-rival" of my daughter's former team - Allen Blue Express. A couple of the players hailed from your neck of the woods and used to play for Perry. We've probably attended the same games and cheered against each other. I just got back from the ASA rules clinic in Arlington. The FED/UIL clinic is tomorrow. Are you planning to attend?? I did see Mike & Robert there today. Gary |
Gary!
Wow! We probably have been on opposing sides of a field during many a tournament. Small world, eh?! Yeah..I talked to Mike about going down to the clinics last night, but alas other business has me this weekend. I had really wanted to attend, but this just wasn't the weekend for me to get there it appears. Enjoy it tomorrow. Scott |
Incidentally Gary, my daughter came in here while I was posting that last one and said that she does indeed remember the Blue Express well. There you have it.

New Photos
Thanks to ntxblue........there are some new photos on the web-site........
Glen (AKA - whiskers_ump/papasmurff).......along with ntxblue's daughter...... come check it out........... Be sure to sign the guestbook...........grin. Joel http://www.eteamz.com/sites/gcbumpire |
Gary originally told me that this make up team coming
as the Dallas Mustangs was a *throw together*. Damn good bunch of throw togethers. His daughter is a great person as well as a good catcher for someone that normally plays 2nd. I have a little thing I always do with the catchers prior to most games, especially the ones I have never seen. I warn them that if I get hit by a pitch that they have missed, their first pitch on their next trip to the plate is a strike no matter where the pitch may be. Things went well for Gary's daughter ~ until the last inning. I got one in each shoulder. {grin} I could not hold her responsible tho, for both were wicked foul balls. However, she did turn and ask me if I really was going to call a strike on her. Gary, she did great and it was really nice meeting both of you and best of luck to her and the team and you and your games in the up coming season. glen |
