Something I've noticed.
I've been doing ASA Slow pitch for several seasons now. However, this is the 1st season in a long time that I've helped with coaching my son's baseball teams.
This year my boy's team (13 -15 year olds) needed a 1st base coach so I volunteered. What I've noticed is that what I (and I'm assuming/hoping the BU) consider easy calls are routinely met with oooh's and aaah's from the parents, coaches and players. Sorry to waste your time with this thread but I've wanted to point this out to somebody for most of the season. |
No doubt - Also they say since you are an umpire as well as a coach then you are overly forgiving about "perceived" bad calls. I tell them that I just realize that there is nothing I can do about a judgment call and if there is a misinterpretation of the rules I will speak to them but if not then it does absolutely no good. The parents have a hard time figuring that one out.

Be CAREFUL! As a first base coach, you run the risk of losing your ability to make a hammer. First base coaches ONLY know how to signal SAFE :) |

Could be they are "ooohing" in disappointment over their kid GETTING out at 1B rather than "ooohing" over the call.
