Additionally, according to Rule 10, Section 4 B and E, the umpire will call “time” to brush off the plate or to perform other duties – rotations – not involved with a play. This keeps the game moving and the players are not subjected to waiting on the umpires to get back to their positions in order to resume play. This simple technique can pick-up the tempo of a game and keep it moving. (Rule 8, Section 7 T; Rule 10, Section 4 B and E; Rules Supplement 34)
HOLY COW!!!! What's this world coming to??? Calling time for umpires to return to their positions simultaneously instead of the players waiting for each umpire to move into position can pick-up the tempo of the fastpitch game and keep it moving!!!!

Let's see, where have I heard this before? Hmmmmmmm......

:D

Maybe there is hope.

I believe we do have some blasphemy here..

If I recall right, it was you & me vs the world on this issue in a past debate.

As much as I enjoy the "I got ball" tango, where you trade off who is staring at players standing on base waiting on the umpires to take shifts getting back into position.. a little common sense displayed by ASA has dealt a crushing blow to the "live ball purists"

OF course I am a s*itty umpire, but...I had someone who is well above the food chain from me wait until I went to my postition as BU, THEN called time to clean the plate. This happened several times in the same game on Memorial Day weekend.

I was effen livid, but of course I am in NO position to say ANYTHING to anyone. BUT...why is it that folks who do this are not admonished somewhere by someone? I have no credibility to say anything about this to anyone, but for pity's sake, is this not common sense?
