NCAA Rule - Ariz vs Baylor
In the Ariz-Baylor game last night, PU (on a 3-0 count) called a ball on the Arizona pitcher for not pitching fast enough. You can barely hear him on the mike, say, "That's five! Ball!"
Is there really a FIVE second limit on pitching in NCAA? If not ... I thought this call was REALLY quick... and if so, I rewound it, and if it WAS 5 seconds, it was 5 from when the batter put her first foot in the box. A gutsy call for a 3-0 pitch - that runner scored. Ended up going extra innings, although Ariz did win eventually. |
Quote:
Time Allowed Between Pitches SECTION 18. The pitcher must be on the pitcher's plate and the batter in the batter’s box within 10 seconds after the pitcher receives the ball or after the umpire calls, “Play ball.” After both the pitcher and batter are in position, the pitcher has five seconds to begin her pitching motion. |
