How Many Bases?

R1 on 1st. Ground ball to short. Ball is overthrown, bounces off the fence.
When the first baseman attempts to pick up the ball, she accidently kicks it into the dugout. She never had possession of the ball
At the time the ball was kicked, R1 was on 3rd. BR on 1st.

Do you have
A) an overthrow that went out of play. Result R1 gets 3rd, BR gets 2nd.
B) a catch and carry type play. R1 gets home, BR gets 2nd.
C) Something else...please explain.
