What were they thinking??
 

So in ASA, the slow-pitch batter's box was changed from 3'x7' to 4'x7'. Yet after the rules were published, my state UIC informed us that they decided to go back to the 3'x7' box.

What in the world were they thinking of in the first place? 21 square feet isn't enough? Enough 3rd basemen aren't being taken out? :p

I told my board that they would have to change it back in order to continue to substantiate their recent rules/regs changes (for "safety's sake"). Making the batter's box bigger only made things more unsafe by taking away the pitchers best weapon...the inside pitch. That's the difference between hitting the ball off the taper of the bat and hitting the ball on most bats sweet spot.

That was the driving point. It's a load of crap, but it is what the players believe.

With the back edge of the box at least 42" away from the plate and the bat speed demonstrated with these composite toothpicks these guys swing, there isn't a batter out there that cannot get the barrel of the bat around to squarely hit an inside pitch.
