What is the rule (or rule of thumb) for R1 breaking for 2nd on the pitch (legally) when a dead ball is called i.e. B2 getting hit by pitch while swinging. Does R1 return to 1st, or get the steal?

Unless Speedy can cover 60' quicker than the ball can get to the plate, I'm sending the runner back.

I agree... the ball is dead when it hits the batter, so the runner returns to 1B.

Seems like it is unanimous. I agree as per every rule book I have ever seen.
