Excercise to prevent knee issue
I reread the post about knee surgery and it got me to thinking. Does anyone out there have any good advice on excercises to do to build muscle to take some stress off the old knees? Someone reccommended training your upper legs....not sure what exactly that meant. Just wondering if there was anyone out there that had found some good things to do that helped them eliminate some of the issues that come from repeated plate games. Any advice would be great.

Make sure they give you a consult to physical therapy after your surgery. A good "pain merchant:( " can make a huge difference in the speed of recovery and quality of life.

You might talk to a physical therapist who specializes in sports injuries. I know the rehab I have done after having my knee scoped included leg presses (on the machine that has you supine), hamstring curls, and a lot of balance work on balance boards and Bosu balls. Also bike riding. My orthopedic surgeon told me that the last 15 degrees were the critical ones for developing the muscles that support the knees, so all the quad stuff including the bike is done with pretty shallow.
Good luck. I wish I had done that stuff early on and maybe I would not have had to have two surgeries. |
