Umpires in So Cal??Who do I call?
Hi, I was looking for umpires for friendlies in Orange County, Ca (Westminster to be exact). Who do I call? How far in advance do I have to call? Is it ok to just call a guy who umpires to see if he wants to do those games..or do you have to go through channels. Just trying to get the proper procedure..
Thanks! ![]() |

I don't care that you are a "travel" team. The umpires you need to contact are those which normally cover the area where the tournament is being held. Therefore, contact the local Parks & Rec folks or the local JO league in your area and they should point you in the right direction.
Then again, since you are an ASA team, you should have an ASA rule book which provides all the ASA contacts in your state. Call the appropriate JO commissioner and they should be able to point you in the right direction.

Let's see now...I'll check out AUS's link first..*scrolls through the contacts list once....twice....three times*. No, I don't see a Ruth Edds listed on there. *Reach for my briefcase and pull out my ASA rule book*. Finds the list of California commissioners and staff *peruses the list once...twice*. Hey, I don't see a Ruth Edds listed there either! Glad to see you took Mike and Steve's suggestions! If all you wanted was Ruth Edds phone number maybe next time you can try whitepages.com.

Man what a hostile group this is!..I have been out of the loop for a few years. I did not know where Ruth lived to look it up and I didn't even know if she was still doing the umpire assignments anymore. I thought Wow! this is an umpire's forum maybe someone could help me. I did put So Cal in the thread so it would be addressed by So Cal umpires. Maybe it is different here..We don't go through the parks or ASA to get umpires. Ruth assigns the umpires for most of So. Cal. A few small associations do limited areas but she handles most of it. You call her..she gets you umpires.. She has been doing it for years. Thanks to the friendly umpire who got me the information.

Try rereading the posts. I didn't say that you would get the umpires from P&R, or directly from SoCal ASA (not ASA). I said they would point you in the right direction.
