I wandered over to McGriffs today for the first time in ages.

Boy, what a complete waste of server space and internet bandwidth!

Very sad.

Agreed....I made a visit over there recently, as well.

Looks different, but nothing else has changed.

What is McGriffs?

It is one of the first officials discussion boards set up on the internet. It was a very good discussion board for several years. Then, it was invaded by the trolls. Gary McGriff refused to establish any effective board monitoring or even to require users register, so the board is rife with trolling, spamming, name spoofing, and the like. I pity the rare individual who comes across the board these days and actually thinks he can get a serious question answered or discussed.

BTW, if you visit there, you will note several familiar usernames posting there. Almost none of these are posted by the "real" person you know by those names.

BTW, again, one of the worst things that could be done would be to post a reply to some lost soul over there looking for a real answer giving them a link to this or any other reasonably useful board. That was done a year or two ago and we suffered through an invasion of the trolls here that lasted a couple of months. Fortunately, this board is monitored, and users have to register, so it eventually died out, but there is not much preventing it from starting up again.

I'd post the link, but, really, it is not worth your time.

I don't think I've been to the "old" forum since I decided to come here.

Based on this thread, it looks like I made the right call (pun intended :D)

I took a look over there and man, what a waste of bandwidth.

Gary had a great idea that was really good for many people but the trolls have ruined it, along with the immature twits that inhabit that area.

It is a sad thing that has happened, but it makes me appreciate even more what Brad has offered us here.

Or to save time you can just go to the baseball forum here. Many of those guys post at McGriffs. While there are some who are fine on the Official Forum Baseball board (including a couple of our regulars), too many are interested in flaming.

Biggest difference on the Official Forum baseball board is that it's only "R" rated. Much worse on the other guy's board.

Jumped off a while back after trying to make a go of it again. It's not gotten any better, but I've noticed an idiot(s) posting under my name.

Please note that if you see anything from "Irishmafia" on McGriffs that was posted in the last few months, it isn't me. I'm sure there are a few from here in the same situation.

Yup. The same applies to me as well! I think that you and I were the only ones from the "old days" still trying to keep the board a useful place.

Just in case anyone cares....McGriffs is no longer allowing any new posts or replies.

It's probably only a matter of time until the site is taken down completely.

I will choose to remember it fondly, as it was the first officials discussion site that I found on the internet.

On the other hand, if you are interested in sports betting or "enlargement" :eek: , hurry on over to get all the information you need!
