Line up card holders

I've been using the old ASA vinyl folders for holding lineup cards.

They work OK (a bit small for some cards). But the vinyl is starting to crack at the hinge, so I'm needing replacements.

Honigs sells two kinds. I put my holder in the back pocket of my pants, so I'm not too sure about the metal clip on this one:

and I wonder if this one:

would provide a good, hard writing surface to back up some of the flimsy line up sheets I get. It looks like it might be just a vinyl pocket-protector kind of thing.

Both the Honigs products are more expensive than the ASA one.

What do you guys use?

I use the Honigs with the metal clip. I've never had a problem with the clip, but I carry it in the inside pocket of my ball bag.

Personally, I don't like the ASA one. I think it's too small.

I use the ASA type, primarily because it holds my bat ring nicely... but I am experiencing the plastic cracking at the hinge as well.

We have guys who use the Honigs type (both styles) and have no issues with them. The third one pictured has a cardboard backing, so it's ok to write on (i.e.: it's not totally plastic).

Correct that the ASA one is too small, exactly sized at the minimum production cost with room for the logo. I've given up using the insert windows and just use it for weather protection.

I might try the mini-clip one for wind resistance, but I don't sit on mine. :p

Use the ASA holder with rubber bands to hold line-ups. I have been known to use checkbook covers.

However, when working championship play, I use the ASA and just take my time unfolding and keeping the line-ups.

I use the Honig's one with the metal clip and have never had a problem. I keep it in the pocket in my ball bag. They tend to last me about 2 seasons because of the plastic cracking at the hinge too. It's only a few bucks - the cost of doing business. I like that one though.

I have been using the "Officials Game Keeper" for the last 3 seasons and love it. Line ups slide right in on both sides. Very easy to use. I got mine on Ebay but they have a website: www.officialsgamekeeper.com

I actually have used all year a nice insurance card holder I found at a car wash...has THREE panels - one panel for each lineup, plus a center panel which holds my bat ring, plus the silly jewelry rule and sportsmanship rule cards NYS makes all of its sports officials carry and read at all games.

I have 2 sizes of the ASA style. One is flimzy and smaller and the other is larger and rigid. The larger one was too large to put in the small pouch in my ball bag, so I did as someone suggested and did away with the pen/pencil slot in my ball bag by removing the stitches. It now fits perfectly. Dave

I really like the looks of this one myself. I think I'll order one and give it a try!

I use the vinyl one..I change between a bigger vinyl and little vinyl asa ones.. but both equally useless... so I usually end up wading up the line up cards/papers in a nice neat trash ball and putting it in a pocket, chosing a pocket which does not interfere with something much more important.. retrieving of sunflower seeds. I wouldnt buy something bigger and better in "uselessness". I have found that the bat ring inside the line up card pocket holds the flipping coin nicely, which is prone to falling out of my pocket for some reason... so I take it back, the line up card holder is "almost useless".

Auto supply store, auto section of your favorite xyz-Mart more likely. It sounds like one of those windshield visor / glove box holders for the registration and insurance of your car.

Thanks for the comments, guys.

This one looks really interesting. How have the vinyl hinges held up for your 3 seasons of use? It has two of them. Any issues in wet weather, since one line up card is always on the "outside" of the folder?

I wish they just sold in plain for a buck or so less instead of packaging all that other useless stuff with it (flashcards?, hat treatment?, pencil sharpener? excel file?) Even so, I may order one.

Dang it, I didn't think about that. Good question - and I've already ordered two!
