Runner leaves before ball caught?
situation;
Runner on 1st with 1 out and batter hits a fly to cf. Runner tags up and leaves as soon as ball touches cf but cf juggles it (not intentional). Does runner have to go back and tag up again since he left as soon as ball touched cf but left before the actual catch was made? Thanks |
The runner can leave as soon as it touches the fielder. She does not need to wait until it is caught.

Otherwise, you would end up with a smart player juggling the ball back to the infield to prevent the runner from leaving. That's why when it's first touched.
