The Rumor Mill is Starting Again....

..here in NY, that the NYSPHSAA wants ALL sports to follow NFHS rules in the near future....including softball! Currently we follow (with some modifications) ASA JO rules here... The question is going to be: how much retraining are we gong to need? Are the rule differences all that great?

The differences are a lot less than they used to be.

If the change is made, you may want to suggest your state association and/or your umpire association place a bulk order for this book. At least, get one for yourself.

Many of us go back and forth between rule books all the time and as Tom said, it's not that difficult; just annoying. Once you convert, you'll get comfortable pretty quickly.

The ASA website, under the "Umpires" section, has a link that takes you to a PDF document listing the differences between ASA, NFHS and NCAA rules.

I can't attest to the completness of this document, but it looks pretty thorough. Might be a good place to start!
