Two runners on same base?

Two runners are occupying the same base. Can the defense tag either one of the runners on the base to get an out? My question is who should the defense tag (nfhs)?

Thanks

The defense can tag both and let the umpire sort it out! ;)

Which runner that would be out would depend on the situation. For example, if it is a force situation, the lead runner could be tagged for the out, but the trailing runner is safe on the bag. If it is not a force situation, the trailing runner could be tagged for the out, but the lead runner is safe on the bag.

A "force situation" would be when the lead runner was "forced" to leave the base in question, such as staying on 2nd with a runner on 1st and a BR reaching 1st safely.

Like Tom said - what is the situation? Safest way is to tag both runners & let me sort it out, 'cuz whatever the situations is on the field, I'll know it. If a force situation, lead runner will be out. If not a force situation, the lead runner owns the rights to a base until she touches the next base, so the trail runner will be the one called out.
