New to this forum, just wanted to say hello, ASA umpire in Dallas since 1981 but still learning evrytime I step on the field.

I dont' think they do down there. I just came back from a business trip down to Texas, flew into Dallas/Ft. Worth circling to land I saw a number of softball fields in use, couldn't help but wonder if anyone on this board was out there working.....either way someone was out there working and I was jealous....it was only low 80's by that time of the evening, not sure I would have been ready for the 100's you guys put up with earlier this week!!!!!!!

I just had a four hour layover at DFW on my way back from Hawaii. Our plane landed at 5:00 am and our next flight left at nine (yuck).

I don't know about the guys you saw on the softball fields, but if you saw a guy sleeping in terminal 34B, waiting for a flight to Columbus, Ohio, that was me!:D

Thanks, we actually did not call any games in January, our winter league did not start until February, so we only work softball 11 months a year.

That would be because there aren't. ;)

A Texas umpire and a Delaware umpire were discussing whether they regularly called games in neighboring states.

TU: "Hail no. If Ah got in mah pickup an' drove awl day, Ah'd steel not git to the stayit line."

DU: "Yeah, I know what you mean. I used to have a truck like that, too."

Nothing would sound right if sung by any of us.

Maybe, but what I miss are the bluebonnets in the hill country west of Austin. All you DFW-area umpires... you need to take a weekend off from the ball field and spend it driving down highway 16 from San Saba to Kerrville in March.

Trust me, your Blue Bell may be special to you, but your "Texas is best" attitude is almost as bad as a SoCal parent believing softball doesn't exist outside of their region.

Growing up, I've consumed dairy products whether milk, ice cream, ice milk, etc. while the cows that provided the milk were in the next room.

Y'all think you've got something special and it may be to you. Only thing is that we had the same thing in the Northeast 100 years before your region was even settled. :b

As a non-native who lived in TX for 8 years, I learned a couple of things...

... this attitude is real and everywhere, but mostly couched in good humor
... you have to learn to take it in good humor, too
... you can ignore the occasional rednecks who actually believe it
... it is actually not much different from any other regional "we are better than you" stuff. As a non-native Minnesotan, it is pretty insufferable here, too.

Tom, I was raised in Kerrville, know the area well. you are so right.

I had a house in Kerrville, sold it five years ago. Loved the area. Had a beautiful spot in Leaky, Texas with a water fall on the Freo River.
Sold it also.

Where are you anyway? We just don't call in Dallas or TX for that matter. Have games, will travel. Myself along with some others from our association have made the trip to N Little Rock, AR for the Busch Classic. We won't be making it this year since they changed the weekend and we have State tournament to call then. And besides, they are going Red shirt this year.

If your question is for me, I am in East Texas. Beaumont area. I call in Houston, Pasadena, Humble, Lufkin
Lake Charles, La., New Orleans (have two there this coming month). :D I have the red shirt also.

Now, see, there it is! Rachel and Tom come DOWN to Texas. Y'all ain't the top of the world :D

And, of course, this is always humorous, but my opinion isn't going to change.

Guess I should have checked my e-mail before I got on the board.

The NO tournament has changed to second weekend of May...will now be in Brusly, La. hosted by VooDoo.

Second one is week later in Denham Springs, La.
