Erroneous Infield Fly Call
ASA slow pitch.
Runner on First. No outs. Pop up hit on the infield between the pitcher and third base. Umpire erroneously rules "Infield Fly". The batter stopped running after hearing the infield fly call. The ball was not caught, thrown to second for a force out and then on to first for a double play. Once infield fly is erroneously ruled, how do you fix it? |

Had one like this a couple years ago. Runner on 2B. Batter hits pop up, real can of corn. My partner (we'll call him "Miami Vice"), when the ball is about halfway up, declares "Infield Fly, Batter is Out!" Ball is STILL going up when I declare even louder, "No it isn't, and you'd better catch it!" Everyone - including coaches, players and fans (just about everyone except my partner) - got a huge laugh out of it.
Miami Vice called one the year before in the "Bermuda Triangle" between the pitcher's plate, first and second. No one was going to be able to get to it, but that doesn't mean he wasn't going to call it. Had necessary runners in necessary places. His partner that day still refuses to work with him... |

I had a partner call one yesterday about 8 feet high and falling between the pitching plate and 1B foul line about a foot from the line. The pitcher dove to catch the ball and could not. No question, no argument. I call a girl out who got tagged overrunning second and the coach gives me the "blow you off" hand sign. I think Dang
