Doing 12U on my final game, working with rookie, she
little timid, talks softly. (she will learn) Runner
on first, batter takes signal steps back to furtherest
corner of box (everyone knows she bunting/faking. With
the pitch she brings bat straight back to height of the
catchers face and kinda waves the bat, I immediately
call dead ball, interference, batter out. However, when
I look out a partner she holding hands up also, I think
she is echoing my call, but she approaches and tells me
she had called no pitch for R1 left too soon. Defensive
coach now wants double bubble, of course he dont get it.
Says why, and I say cause we had no pitch, cant have
interference on the batter. Goans, but leaves.

Good call Papa Smurf and by Smurfette too. At least she called it, a lot of rookies would have let it go.

The bat waving thing.........though annoying......should NOT be called interference unless the batter continues it after the pitch and interferes with the cathcer making a play on another runner.

Papa........do ya'll not allow that where you are from?

We do in most cases, but if batter just hangs bat and
leaves it waving it through entire play, then natch we
nail them.

Not interference unless the act prevents catcher from making a play. What I did, if the bat was waving when the pitch came in, was to call, "she went!", strike.

As the KIDS say my BAG guys, guess I did not explain
situtation thoroughly. When I said with the pitch I
I did mean that the batter kept the bat in catchers
face throughout attempt. If catcher had stepped for-
ward she would have eaten the bat.

I knew what you meant P.Smurf. I think the other guys got hung up on the term bat waving. We used to have a girl in one of the local high schools who had the uncanny knack of pulling the bat back on a bunt right into the catcher's face whenever some one was stealing. After ringing her up twice in one game for it, she never did it again when I was behind the plate for one of her games. She graduated last year.

This was one of the biggest violations early on this
year until all umpires started ringing em up and letting
the coaches know it was not going to happen.
